Learn Reality Based Self Defense

“I was once asked; What makes a great Martial Arts Teacher? A great teacher is someone who’s main focus during class is their students, and not themselves. The focus must be the students growth, mental state, safety, and their ability to apply combat strategy with confidence under pressure against a non-cooperative opponent. The greatest gift a teacher can give a student is the confidence to not just believe they can, but know they can. By creating the right environment for the student to be tested and to thrive in the face of diversity. This is the greatest gift a teacher can give to a student.”

– Founder Sean Elders

What is it like training at PCA?

I have heard our founder Sean Elders say on more than one occasion that the best training he has ever received wasn’t at the typical commercial strip mall martial arts school, but the private space at his Teachers residence (backyard, Garage, Driveway). Training in the backyard of the teacher’s home is an age-old tradition in the martial arts, one that emphasizes the very strong tribal/family relationships that the best master teachers seek to have with their chosen students.

In contrast the typical commercial martial arts school, where making money is generally the single main focus. Only the privileged few receive personal attention from the Head Instructor while the other students never have so much as a brief conversation with them even though they are paying them for lessons, much less have any opportunity to personally train with them. Today’s ability to train with the head instructor is only ever open to the most popular individuals with the deepest pockets instead of the dedicated and serious students.

There is no exclusion here at PCA. Regardless of race, gender, age, skill level, or aptitude, once you are accepted as a student, you will never be precluded from having a direct, personal relationship with the teacher, but know that the responsibility for establishing and maintaining that relationship is reciprocal.

Prospect Student

What to expect as a prospect student – Know that you will be walking into a safe, healthy environment. During that first visit, Sifu Sean will be evaluating you as a potential student as much if not more than you’ll be assessing if what we have to offer is what you are looking for. Part of the responsibility is creating and maintaining an environment that is most conducive to learning, and the composition of the group is of great importance in that endeavor.
